We&rsquo;re Hiring! LRE Water is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Macroinvertebrate Taxonomist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in macroinvertebrate taxonomy and aquatic ecosystem assessments. This role involves sample collection, advanced taxonomic identifications, biological data analysis, and contributing to other projects such as water quality assessments, regulatory reporting, and habitat evaluations. This position is flexible and can be structured as either a full-time or part-time role, depending on the candidate's availability and preferences.

Responsibilities
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Perform detailed taxonomic identification of macroinvertebrates to support water quality and ecological studies, with a focus on western U.S. species.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Lead projects involving multimetric index (MMI) analysis and its application in assessing stream and watershed health.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Collaborate with regulatory agencies regarding the development and application of water quality standards related to biological and habitat metrics.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Management and quality control of fieldwork - including macroinvertebrate sampling, electro-fishing, habitat evaluations, etc.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Conduct habitat assessments, including pebble counts, to evaluate physical habitat conditions and support ecological interpretations.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Provide expertise in 303(d) listing methodology and prepare regulatory reports, including impaired waterbody assessments.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Analyze data to assess biological integrity and identify trends, stressors, and restoration opportunities.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Communicate findings through detailed reports, presentations, and stakeholder meetings.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Mentor junior staff in macroinvertebrate taxonomy, data analysis, and regulatory processes.</li>
</ul>
Qualifications
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field (Master&rsquo;s or Ph.D. preferred).</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">At least 5 years of experience in macroinvertebrate taxonomy and ecological assessment, with significant work in the western United States, or ability to become certified for taxonomy for the Western U.S. within 6 months.&nbsp;</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Expertise in macroinvertebrate identification to the lowest practical taxonomic level.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Strong understanding of MMI analysis and its application to water quality assessments.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Familiarity with state and federal water quality standards, including 303(d) listing methodologies.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Proficiency in habitat assessment techniques, such as pebble counts and geomorphic evaluations.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Experience with statistical software and database management tools for biological and water quality data analysis.</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">Strong technical writing skills and the ability to communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.</li>
</ul>

Flexible/Hybrid Work Options:
LRE Water offers a hybrid work environment that promotes flexibility for our employees and encourages work/life balance. This role will be based out of the Fort Collins, Colorado office with the flexibility to work 1 to 3 days/week remotely. Field work may require travel, long field days, weekend work, and night work that will occasionally result in weeks with more than 40-hours of work.
