In addition to founding and presiding over the company that bears his name, Leonard (Lee) Rice did much to further consulting engineering in Colorado and the nation. LRE believes that an ongoing scholarship is a great way to honor Lee Rice and his values. After his passing, the Board of Directors of LRE established the Leonard Rice Memorial Scholarship Fund (LRMSF).

Since 2005, we have contributed $6,000 each year to the Scholarship Committee of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Colorado (ACEC-CO) to fund the top scholarship awarded to an undergraduate engineering student of a Colorado engineering school.

This year, the Lee Rice Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Katie McQuie, a student at the University of Colorado Boulder. Katie is pursuing a double major in chemical engineering and environmental engineering, and will graduate in December 2018, immediately followed by a semester abroad.

In addition to her rigorous scholastic schedule, Katie is the Section President for the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the Director of Department Relations for the CU Boulder chapter of the Society of Environmental Engineers, and is involved in many other activities that support her educational and professional goals.

Everyone at LRE is excited to see what the future holds for Katie, and we congratulate her and the other scholarship recipients.  These budding engineers will be honored at a reception on March 29th.
